Mix-Up At The Museum is about Jamie, a 10-year-old  who knows she worries too much,  but who now has something to worry about–how to get back to the real world. Her problem is that she stepped into a painting and, once you do, you cannot escape unless you know something about art. Her adventure takes her through 26 paintings by 15 famous artists. In terms of character development, Jamie begins as a worry wort and learns courage. In terms of art education, she has to figure out art analysis to save herself and get back before the museum closes. The story has an unexpected twist involving self-portraits that lets her return to the real world. Discussion questions in the back matter tie the storytelling and illustrations to concepts in the National Core Art Standards for Visual Arts, components on Responding and Connecting for Grades 2 – 4.

The book is illustrated by Albert Bierstadt, Paul Cezanne, Albrecht Durer, William Leitch, Isaac Levitan, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Mikhail Nesterov, John Singer Sargent, Ivan Shishkin, Konstantin Somov, Carl Spitzeg, J.M.W. Turner, and Ferdinand Georg Waldmuller. Illustrated chapter book, ages 6 – 10.
